Event Description

My work explores the relationship between celestial formation and the consumption of energy. I often see this process mirrored within the human condition. The endless need to consume and propagate has bled into every aspect of society. This foundation is absolutely fundamental to our systems of government, economics and social psychology. I was inspired by a quote from famous physicist Professor Brian Cox, “We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.” This is especially significant due to late stage capitalism creating a set of circumstances that will mean the end of humanity itself. Utilising soundscape, music and visual projection the viewer is left with an insight into just how interchangeable stellar phenomena and life on earth is. In it’s structure, purpose and language it speaks to us.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Liam Kirk Christenson Foggett

I have been a touring musician, composer, producer and soundscape artist for over fifteen years. Recently my wish to further my education has landed me at University of Newcastle where I am in the final semester of a degree in Creative Industries. Throughout my degree I have been able to extend my creative practice into visual arts and digital media. I wish to explore this further in post graduate studies.

Chromatic Festival and The University of Newcastle acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal Nation, Darkinjung Nation, Biripai Nation, Worimi Nation, Wonnarua Nation and Eora Nation. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.

Chromatic Festival and The University of Newcastle recognise that First Nations sovereignty was never ceded. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.

We respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and continuing relationship with the land, and recognise that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession.
